Clinical guidelines are developed by professional societies and also, in England, an independent non-departmental public body, the National Institute for Health Care Excellence (NICE). Similarities differences between these should be viewed context of different objectives, responsibilities roles guideline developers. This review describes NICE clinical development principles processes with aim to provide reader informed perspective on recommendations made. appointed advisory committee comprising healthcare professionals as well lay members, supported a team project managers, information specialists, systematic reviewers health economists. Furthermore, registered stakeholders organisations that have interest topic, or represent people whose practice care may directly affected guideline, consulted draft scope guidelines. selects limited number high impact questions answered evidence, rather than cover certain topic exhaustively do. reflect both effectiveness cost-effectiveness interventions.
